This is from a series of photos Michael Abramson took during the 1970’s while visiting south side discotheques. The name of the book is  Light: South Side. It’s amazing.
This photo is from Pepper’s Hideout around 1976.

Also to those of you getting all like-y and reblog-y over the Uncharted Books event, this too would be greatly worth your while.
More details here and I happen to know from personal experience that the evening’s co-host spends way too much time at the Noble Square VFW. So do it!

Uncharted Books is a new bookstore that was funded on Kickstarter and had a Tumblr before it was born. It’s a dream spot for book-web-community nerds and I absolutely can’t wait to see it (and all of you.)

whistlerchicago:

On March 18th, we’re hosting the Bike & Build Fundraiser, which will help send a number of local cyclists from Providence, RI to Seattle, WA. Along their 3,000 mile journey, these cyclists will be working with groups such as Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together to build, renovate, or preserve homes to broaden access to affordable housing. Headlining the show will be Minneapolis/Ecuador-based, bossanova-pop group Buffalo Moon (check out their great new video up above) and Jim Becker’s Appalachian stringband The Paulina Hollers will open. Great cause. Great music. Be there.

Artwork by Mitch Lidberg. Notice how Bucktown is distinguished from Wicker Park, as well as the representation of Wrigleyville!

Clicking through the poster should lead to the FB Page to keep up with it as the day arrives. Terrific that this is an all ages event.
